Here’s how to set up Parental Controls on your router, so you can restrict internet access for specific devices at times you choose.
Step 1 – Log in to your router
- Connect your device to your broadband.
- Open a web browser, such as Chrome, Safari or Edge.
- Enter 192.168.50.1 in the address bar and press Enter.
- On the router login page, enter the last six digits of your router’s serial number. You’ll find this on the router label.
Step 2 – Find Parental Controls
Once you’re logged in:
- Select Advanced Setup from the main menu.
- Select Parental Controls.
- Select Add to create a new rule.
Step 3 – Create your rule
Choose the device you want to manage and when its internet access should be restricted.
- Rule name: Enter an easy-to-recognise name, such as “Emma’s Phone”, “Kids Tablet” or “Bedtime”.
- MAC address: Select Other MAC Address, then enter the device’s MAC address. This is a unique set of letters and numbers that identifies the device, for example AA:BB:CC:DD:EE:FF.
- Days: Choose the days the restriction should apply. For example, select Monday to Friday for a school-night schedule.
- Start and end time: Choose when internet access should be restricted. For example, enter a start time of 20:00 and an end time of 08:00 for an overnight restriction.
Please note: If your router does not accept a schedule that crosses midnight, create two rules—for example, 20:00 to 23:59 and 00:00 to 08:00.
When you’re happy with the settings, select Apply/Save.
Don’t know the device’s MAC address?
To find it through your router, go to Device Info → Wi-Fi.
You’ll see the devices currently connected to your network. Find the device you want to manage and make a note of its MAC address.
Tip: Some phones and tablets use a private or randomised MAC address. If the rule is not working, check that the address shown on the device matches the one selected in the router.
Need different schedules?
You can create more than one rule—for example, one for weekdays and another for weekends.
Once saved, your router will apply the restrictions automatically.
We hope this helps you set up Parental Controls. If you need any help, please get in touch and our team will be happy to help.
